From a pile of logs harvested from a forest restoration site, Okanogan Communities Development Council has endeavored to create a product that meets stringent environmental standards. OCDC supports economic development that enhances the community and restores the ecology. The much needed jobs that are an outcome of this project are rekindling hopes that our natural resources can once again be counted on to support our families, but only if we all take seriously the need to care for the environment in return. Our wood comes from restoration forestry projects that comply with water and soil protection standards while protecting wildlife and riparian habitats.

Fir flooring is a new product being made from small diameter wood harvested from restoration sites. Suppressed trees have characteristics that make them ideal for flooring: strength and beauty. Although made from fir-the flooring wears more like a hardwood because the tree rings are much closer together. We have found trees that were only 5 inches wide and 200 years old. Flooring made from tight ringed trees is strong. It is also full of interesting patterns that create a wonderful floor for a cabin or cottage.

If you live in the Methow Valleyl, the flooring is available at Methow Valley Lumber located in Twisp. The number is 997-8541. If you are not local, please call us at 509 997-2245
